COLES CLASS ASSIGNMENT This 11" x 14" page, in a vintage ledger book, was started in a class with Juliana Coles. She led us very quickly through a series of exercises, intended, among other things, to free us from our inner critic. I loved the exercises, Juliana's supportive spirit, and the class. The process involved layering - of paint, text, collage, marks, etc. The layering, building up of texture, color, and interest, really appeals to the quilter in me. Quilting involves the layering of backing fabric, batting and quilt tops. This process of layering other materials is very exciting to me and was the impetus behind the Red Grid piece in my Mixed Media Work.
