NO. 5 - 14" x 14" MIXED MEDIA May - the 5th month of the year. It's the month of Mother's Day, my son's birthday, my birthday, and the end of our school year. I have a child in middle school, one in high school, and I am in my 5th year serving on the school board, so May is very hectic. This piece began as a yellow painted canvas. I "filled in" areas of the canvas with other colors and tried to balance their distribution with the same eye that I try to balance distribution of fabrics when designing a quilt. The cross-hatchings were made with copper paint on a remnant of plastic grid. Those marks remind me of stitching lines on quilts, another allusion to the merging of my interests. I thought the background was interesting, but needed a focal point, so I pulled out my wonderful MaVinci's stamps (Fortress), and stamped the No. 5. This piece is mounted off-center on the wood support. I just like it that way, but I suppose it's also representative of the fact that I feel off-center when I'm too busy. |
